My Pranaams to all .
Well, I would like to request the great and highly honoured persons in this forum to help me out... I recently attended a shashtiabdapoorthi of my friend's parents. And an year back, on the occasion of my grandfather's bday, we celebrated sathabhishekam. My father and my chitappa took great care to make the function a grand success. Ever since, I have this question pouncing within me.. Why is such rituals performed only on husband's birthday(acc to his nakshtram) and why not according to the wife's bday? Is this not patriachal ? I'm sure there must be a legit reason behind this in our puranas and vedas... I request someone to enlighten me on this fact. please. Thank you.

HARI OM !
I AM NOT AN AUTHORITY. IN SUCH MATTERS.However I understand that usually these are celebrated on the birth- nakshtra day of the husband if he is alive. The wife if alive participates with her husband. She is the SAHADHARMANI. Even when the wife is not present due to various reasons like death or otherwise ,this function can be performed. When husband is dead ,now a days ,these functions are being performed on wife 's birthday. These are only SHANTHI PARIGHARAM.Yrt
