T.G.Sundaram Iyer about experience on meeting His Holiness
BY MAHESH KRISHNAMOORTHY on AUGUST 12, 2014
In the year 1980, Kanchi Pudu Periaval (Shri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal) had graced Mumbai in general and Mulund in particular. During the course of his Vijaya Yatra, he established Kanchi Kamakoti Kainkarya Sabha in various locations in Mumbai. Mulund was one among them.
The aim and objectives of the Organisation was to work for the upliftment of the society. We were fortunate to be the members of the organization.
The Mulund unit of Kanchi Kamakoti Kainkarya Sabha, was able to do a lot of charitable activities for the social cause. Some of them were :
Conducting Samasthi Upanayanam
Conducting Dharma Vivaham (Sponsoring the marriage expenses of a bride)
Distributing fruits and biscuits in Hospitals
Distributing uniforms in municipal schools
In the year 1983, the Mulund Unit of Kanchi Kamakoti Kainkarya Sabha, performed 2 dharma vivahams.
After the marriage rituals were over, the members of the sabha felt a desire that the two newly married couples may seek the blessings of Kanchi Paramacharyal (Maha Swamigal). During this period, Kanchi Paramacharyal was camping at Shahabad in Maharashtra.
We were extremely happy to note that we will get an opportunity to have the holy darshan of Kanchi Paramacharyal. The next day after the marriage, all the members of the Sabha along with the newly wedded couples started from Mumbai for Shahabad by Madras Mail. The train reached Shahabad the next day around 11 a.m.. We got down and enquired about the actual camp location of Paramacharyal. However, we were informed that Paramacharyal had already left Shahabad and had proceeded to Wadi.
We were disappointed because it was already 11.00 A.. and we wanted to meet Paramacharyal at the earliest possible time. We were thinking as to how to reach Wadi. By the blessings of the His Holiness, we met a truck driver who was proceeding to Wadi, and would be too pleased to take us and drop us near the camp of Paramacharlyal. We were pleasantly surprised. We could not control our emotions.
We boarded the truck and rached Wadi around 11.30 A.M., and shortly we were in the camp of Paramacharyal. The camp was really beautiful with green fields in and around. There were boring pipes through which water could be taken out manually. The water was sweet and tasty.
Another pleasant surprise was waiting for us in the Camp. We wanted to take bath first and then have the dharshan of Paramacharyal. However, we were greeted by one of the camp assistant who cheerfully made the following statement.
“Paramacharyal has already informed about your visit. I have also been informed that in the group of devotees, there would be newly married couples. As such, as per the instructions, I have prepared the prasadam (lunch) for all of you and Chakkara Pongal (sweet). Please take bath, have the prasadam first (as desired by Paramacharyal), and then take the blessings of Paramacharyal.”
We were once again taken by surprise, because we had not given any advance intimation about our visit. Yet Paramacharyal knew about our visit. Not only that, he has also instructed for preparation of Chakkar Pongal (Sweet), to be served to the newly married couple.
After taking prasadam, we went to seek the blessings of Paramacharyal. We were really lucky enough to be very near to him for nearly 15 minutes. We stayed till late evening in the Camp and had continuous darshan of Paramacharyal.
When the sun started setting, Petromax lamps were lit in the Camp, Two young vedic students started chanting “Vishnu Sahasranamam” in front of Paramacharyal. Paramacharyal was listening with rapt attention. It was a memorable evening that one could experience. The sun had set. No electrical lights (tube lights/ bulbs) were lit in the camp.
It was a memorable event because everyone got a golden opportunity to spend a good amount of time in the vicinity of Paramacharyal.
We were really moved by Paramacharyal’s love for fellow human beings. He had true concern, feelings and care for his devotees. Every devotee who sought his darshan came back with a contended heart. He looked upon everyone equally with love and affection.
After seeking the blessings of Paramacharyal we started back for Bombay. We came back to Bombay with a great amount of satisfaction.
Till today we really experience the blessings of Paramacharyal. When we nostalgically think back about those invaluable moments; our hearts are filled with joy and contentment.
