Hi,
Once of my friend is doing gayathri purascharanam and will be completing it in couple of months. He is planning to do gayathri homa and samaradhana to complete the same. I would like to get clarification from our moderators if he can use tila as a dhiraviyam for doing gayathri homam. Some claim that he should not use tila for homa since his parents are alive.
Can you kindly help me to get clarity on this?
Regards, Hariharan.P

Before giving my reply, just am curious to know what his 'Vadhyar' has suggested.

His vadhyar has suggested to use tila while other well wishers have different opinion.

His vadhyar has suggested to use tila while other well wishers have different opinion. Generally this is the problem with many of us nowadays. When one's Vadhyar says something he has to follow it unless there is any strong different opinion expressed by ones' family elders or any other vidwan regarding any vaidheeka karyams. By this adoption, we can avoid many confusions and agony. I don't understand why we should get confused by those opinions expressed by the so called 'well wishers'. Are they, by chance, well versed with any prayogams? In many cases the answers would be 'no'. By saying this I am not against seeking clarifications on several of our anushtanams and vaidheeka karyams. One may get doubts, it is natural. Seeking clarifications is entirely different from" going on listening to persons who have nothing to do with prayoga paddhathees. " Coming back to the subject, let me assure you that the use of til is not just related to pitru karyams alone. Some of you might be surprised to learn that during Sashtiabdhapurthi celebrations, the Karta has to personally do a tila ahuthi homam !. In this particular case I don't see any reason to advice against his Vadhyar's opinion.
