Dear member,
If you are genuinely interested to follow the dharma sAstram, just read Periva's discourses in Deivathin Kural. He has explained all this very practically and guided the right approach for someone who genuinely wants to adopt and correct.
This book has changed the lives of many including some members of this Forum.
Also note that we are born as herbivorous knowing to drink and eat the most saatvic food and life can still go on without coffee, tea, cakes and the banned vegetables. Also note that eating out in hotels is also prohibited and Periva talks about the need for everyone to know cooking and make their own food, in great detail.
To sum it up, this is just child's play if you really have the intent and strong will. Nothing else Is needed to make it happen.
May Periva shower His anugrahams on all of us in this Forum to get back to the wise ways of living!!

I fully agree with the Administrator's views. All we need is a strong will to follow the Sastras.
There are a few men colleagues at my office who strictly follow this principle. They do not take coffee or tea and not even the lunch in the canteen which is free of cost! They bring food from home, and sometimes it may be only curd rice. They also gently, but firmly avoid eating cakes even during their own birthday celebrations at office, not minding the criticism of others.
My husband for instance insists I cook and take food in the car even when we go out on short one day trips. When I am not around, he cooks his own food, even if it is a simple meal, and eats at restaurants only when it is absolutely unavoidable.
Eating out on weekends has become a fashion these days. Gone are the days when the entire family used to sit together and take food. In this fast paced world, each member of the family eat at different timings, and most of the time while talking on the phone or watching the TV. So, why don't we atleast spend the weekends to sit together at home for a meal.
As a wife, mother and a working woman myself, I think there is a lot more joy in cooking with your own hands keeping in mind the likes and dislikes of the other members in the family, and at the same time ensure that all eat healthy food. It helps strengthen the love and bonding in the family at a time when all of us are leading very busy lives.
Finally, all of us religiously follow the doctor's or the nutritionist's advise on food restrictions when we are ailing. So, why hesitate to follow what the Sastras have prescribed, or the advice of our Guru, Maha Periva?
