Yes, Definetly it is a must for any brahmin to do three times sandhyavandanam. But in this modern world, work is workship and more demanding and challenging, it is very hard to do madyanikam if a person is leaving his home in the morning @ 7.30 a.m. For sure I am doing morning and evening sandhyavandanam. But madyanikam according to dharma sastras, we can do around 9.00 a.m. allowed. But in my situation since I am leaving very early to work @ 7.30 a.m., what to do? Weekends possible. Tell me what to do in my situation?

Dear Member, Welcome to the Forum, and we are happy to note your interest in complying with the requirement. If only all Brahmins come forward to do their duty like you, this world would certainly become much better. You might also refer to the post made our moderator krsiyer today on "Who is responsible for the decay of Varna Dharma", where Periva expresses some strong points and views about Brahmins and their responsibility. Link to this post: periva.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=dharmasastra&thread=2017Coming to your question, where there is a will, there is always a way - you can certainly find a way out is what our elders have been repeatedly saying. But we notice your interest to meet your commitment, and the via-media solution is that doing it just before you leave for office is better than not doing it at all. Of course, you must also ensure that before you have your food in the afternoon, you pray to the Almighty to accept your oblations made earlier in the day and pray unto Him for getting a better way out of this. You will eventually find yourself out of this trouble one way or the other. We also hope our moderator Sri Sarma Sastrigal, a practising Sastrigal & author of several books on Hindu Tradition & Dharma Sastra, would be responding on this query shortly.

The Administrator of our forum is correct when he says that the madhyahnikam can be performed even earlier if there is a compulsion for timings. Let me also say that it is important that one should be always in our touch of performing tri-kala sandhyavandhanam, irrespective of the timings. Otherwise it is quite possible that the individual looses his mindset to perform this pivotal nitya karma. I know a person who was performing mahdyahnikam at 5 am in the early morning followed by Pratah-sandhya for daily about three decades since he had to catch his office pick-up bus at 5 45 am. And now he is in his retired life and of course performs it at the prescribed timings since time is at his disposal now. And you will be surprised that he was, in addition to this Saya Sandhya and Madhyahnikam also was performing Sahara Gayatri every day at 3 30 am daily. He did keep his practice in tact and did not take shelter under any excuses whatesover.
While on the subject I may say that as regards to Sayam-sandhya also, you can carry it out even if you return home late in the night unmindful of timings. It is the mindset that matters. Please do not discontinue doing it on any count.

Thanks for the clarity. I have a doubt. If there is Grahanam during sandhya time, can we do sandhyavandhanam during this grahana time? What about during the 10 days of Aparam, if some one happens to do apara karma? Can we do Bramha yagnam - assuming we do this every day - during these 10 days and also during the grahana time?

When one is in the middle of ten-days tainted period, performing apara karma, he is allowed to perform only some portions in the sandhyavandana and a minimum number of Gayatri japa.
On this, and on the other point on Grahanam, I shall explain in detail in due course in a new thread.

Email message forwarded by Shri G Balasubramanian: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Good. Pl. Perform MadhyAnhikam on weekdays before leaving for office even though mAdhyAnhika kAlam has not yet arrived. Performing it earlier is considered better than abandoning altogether.
At least during weekend and holidays please perform MadhyAnhikam closer to noon. Permission for Performing at 9 AM is not a blanket provision.
On a day on which Sun rises at 6 A. M sharp, MAdhyAnhika kAlam lasts between 10-48 A.M.to 1-12 P.M. Hence, it is not advisable to adopt 9A.M. as permitted time for performing MAdhyAnhikam generally.
