OM SRI GURUPYO NAMAHA:,RESPECTFUL PRANAMS TO SRI KANCHI MAHA PERIVA.
Importance of Bhakti
Intellectual acceptance of the infinite glory of the Supreme Being is no doubt necessary; but it has to be realised as the very truth in one's inner awareness. This is the beginning of the growth of Jnana that can nurture Bhakti and lead to salvation. This realisation is within one's reach only during human birth; for as human beings endowed with the faculties of the senses and also with the mind and intellect, it is possible to strive to realise God.
That the miraculous grace of Goddess Kamakshi flowed as excellent poetry from Muka is testimony to the extent of Her grace, pointed out Sri Goda Venkatesawara Sastrigal in a lecture. The devotion to the Goddess evinced by this poet/Acharya is a beacon light for us to develop Bhakti.
In a verse the poet celebrates Her kindness that restored Manmatha to life. The episode of Lord Siva burning Manmatha to ashes with His third eye is alluded here. Scriptures state that any wrongdoing will be punished and one has to atone for it. Manmatha had disturbed the penance of Siva and was duly punished. But what was the fault of Rathi? The sorrowing Rathi prayed to Parvathi seeking Her succour. With Parvathi's intervention, Siva gave Manmatha to Rathi, but without a human form.
There is no doubt that Her grace can remove our failings and guide our thought, word and deed towards salvation.
If we surrender ourselves at the feet of the Divine Mother, She will help us to overcome the desires for worldly objects. This purifies the heart and makes us see the ephemeral quality of earthly existence and the permanent value of God realisation.
This Jnana helps us to withstand the onslaughts of Samsara. We all have our share of suffering. There is no escape from it that is the consequence of our previous births.
By invoking Her grace through devotion, we can hope that the truth of Her nature will be revealed to us. Karma, Bhakti and Jnana are the paths to salvation.
Prayer and worship imply a devotee and a deity. Devotion is the means for the realisation of God's infinite greatness
