The kumbabhishekam of the siva and Vishnu temples at varagur ,Thanjavur district, my ancestral village, was long overdue. It was the year 1980 and. Devotees in the village thought that getting blessings of Mahaswamigal will give the needed coordination of residents of the village and those who have migrated to the city for livelihood. Mahaswamigal was camping in a village in Andhra then. The responsibility of arranging for railway reservation for a party of about 15 persons was given to me. Though onward reservations were booked, return reservation was not available.
We all alighted at Guntakal station in the morning,Planning to return the same night. As the responsibility was on me, on alighting I spotted a railway official to whom I explained.the purpose of our journey and the need for return reservation the same night, all the time praying to Mahaswamigal. We then proceeded to the camp ,had soulful darshan of Mahaswamigal who blessed the initiative. We returned to the station to catch the night train, not sure where the unreserved compartments were.
Asthe train steamed into the platform , I was surprised to find "M.S.Gopalakrishnan and party" written in chalk piece in as many as 5 or 6 compartments! We all got into the seats reserved for our party in the compartments and had a comfortable return journey to chennai. Those days there was no computer reservation and TTE s had greater discretionary powers in allotting accommodation. It is a miracle how my request was taken seriously by the official and the vacancies in different compartments were allotted to us! There canbe no explanation, except that the grace of Mahaswamigal is therefor all actions dedicated to a higher end. The kumbabhishekam was celebrated in 1981 after perhaps 30 years. The coordination that came about helped performance of a second kumbabhishekam later in the nineties. Efforts are now afoot to perform kumbabhishekam in the year 2016 and now my feeling is that the grace of Mahaswamigal is a running river, enriching the soil of our religious initiatives ever!(article penned in 2015) The kumbabhishekam of the temples was performed in a very grand manner on 2-4-2017,with Veda parayanam etc.
