Source: In the Presence of the Divine Narratives of Experiences with Maha Periyaval - Volume 1 Translated by: Sujatha VijayaraghavanAn elderly gentleman prostrated to Periyaval and stood with worry writ all over his face. "Ask him what is it, my boy" The attendant made enquiries. "Very often I have dreams in which Yama appears. So does his buffalo. I am frightened". Periyaval said, "This is advance notice served to you. You life is to end shortly. Atleast now, you must strive to perform good deeds and yearn yourself some merit. This is the message conveyed to you". "What can I do?" "Perform some purtadharma. In a sacred place, give away a milch buffalo with a female calf. Seek Siva-darsan every day. Perform the deeds that are to be done every day and those that are to be done once a month. Fast on the days prescribed for fasting". The elder's worries vanished. His face cleared. He told the attendants when he left, "It was as if Lord Parameshwara himself has instructed me".
