Namaskaram to one and all. Can we use rudraksha mala for chanting Gayathri Mantram?

Yes. You can do using rudraksha. This is the way I do.
During sandya vandhanam, I do 108 times and this I doing using kara mala (hand).
When I do sahasra gayatri, I use rudraksha for counting. This i do after sandya vandanam is complete.

The best option is always to use the hands; any other mala like Rudraksha or Spatika are okay but the counting with hands is the most preferred and prescribed in our scriptures - try using that to the maximum possible extent
