Respected members
I am employed in Saudi Arabia since 2010. I do Sandhyavandanam daily. I have read and told by some of my friends that doing Sandhyavandanam and other rituals are of no use when you are not in your hometown / home country and cross the sea. Is it correct? Please guide me on this.
Thanks.

I live in the US and do Sandhyavandhanam three times a day. Maha Periyava Himself has not said anything to indicate you should not cross the oceans. On the contrary He has quoted instances in ancient times when priests who went to Cambodia etc were still considered Brahmins. Unfortunately there is an undercurrent amongst certain people who say ' Oh my, you went to seemai - that's it. You're not a brahmin anymor' that stems out of envy than anything else. So please continue to uphold the traditions.

Sri. Kumar,
Pratha sandhyavandanam around 4 am as I get up quite early. Madhyanigam around 12 and Sayam Sandhya depending on the time of sunset. Now it is around 5.20 pm. You can look at sunset sunrise times in your area and do as accordingly.

Also, please do NOT do Argyam after sunset as the benefits will only reach Asuras.

Thank you Sri Vish Iyer. For me doing Madhyanigam around 12 is difficult because of the office timings. I am doing after 8:24 as suggested by Periava or his close associates in one of these forums. I am going to do it as per the timings (prescribed) during holidays but during work hours is the problem. Also during winters because of day light savings it gets dark by 4 or 5. How do you manage to do in this case? By the grace of Lord Sri Rama, I try to do sahasra every time. Is this what you are also doing? Kindly let me know the practises you are following as I would like to get all the good practises and try to do the best of my abilities.

Sir,
As per Sengalipuram Anantharama Dikshitar (you can listen to his upanyasam on YouTube) it is okay to do morning Sandhyavandam before sunrise, this may even be better. I have a separate panchapatram udhirani at work to do Madhyanigam. Evening I definitely do before sunset, whatever that time may be. Even when I travel. And any part of the world I am in. And I do 108 Gayathri in am, 32 afternoon and 64 in the evening. From time to time I do 1008 Gayathri. My sincere, sincere wish is EVERYONE does Tri Kala Sandhyavandanam every day.
AUM Namachivaya.

I am a senior citizen and am glad that there are many young men doing Sandhyopasanam taking it seriously despite staying abroad. I also served overseas for 3 years but I have been doing Sandhyavandanam till date uninterruptedly all these years except when on travel. I have felt the benefits of my adhering to this religious practice in terms of mainly mind control. In olden days foreign travel was prohibited perhaps due to long periods of travel forcing dropping of nityakarmanushtana continuously for days and months. Nowadays with air travel this deviation can be avoided. The problem in our society is people with half knowledge on Sastraic matters advise others voluntarily and wrongly. Sandhya karma concerns refining the mind which we carry with us wherever we go, be it Saudi or the US.If you leave such good practices based on the reasons discussed you will find it difficult to re- inculcate them when you come back to India. We will also be doing injustice to our children by denying them these good traditions. After all it needs a tumbler of water and a few minutes of our time daily.Keep on boys, my best wishes!
