Mouna means not to express an opinion in any form.
It becomes infructuous should you keep your mouth closed, but use gestures to convey your opinion.
KASHTA MOUNA, is a type of a mouna, in which the aspirant undertakes to be like a piece of log.
In this type of Mouna, gesturing and written instructions are not allowed.
At the early stages of SAdhana, it is not possible to avoid actions and control flow of thoughts.
At the initial stages, gesturing and writing is allowed.
This is essentially to "Tie the Tongue"
With intense Sadhana, the Sadhaka overcome the "dancing mind"
Mouna is one of the tools for Eashwara Aradhana
Rigorous practice, leads to Ardhana/Mouna becoming one and the same.
At this point, mouth stops talking, eyes stop seeing, ears stop listening.
More important mind stops thinking.
If a small ant were to move over our body, when we are in deep slumber, we brush it aside or crush it
If we feel cold, we pull a bed sheet over our body.
When we wake up in the morning, we are oblivious of these events.
We are unaware (Pragya) of these actions.
This is because most of us are "Shareera Abhimani". (Preference to body)
To us Shareera is the most important aspect of our life.
It reacts to pain, when beaten
Our body reacts to "titilation". It is also accompanied by laughter!!!
We very often come across a situation when one yawns other nearby also yawn.
The body/shareera is Sukha Bhoga.
(शीर्यते इति शरीरं
The word Shareeram is derived from the word Sheeryate, which means to shrink

What then is Mouna?
The presence of an Anaconda will not be felt by the body in deep mouna.
Heat, cold will have no effect on our body.
In short the Shareera Abhimana would have lost it's punch.
The nerves do not respond to external forces. ("titilation pain, etc..")
At this stage the Sadhaka becomes JITENDRA (Victory over Indriyas)
The practice of mouna subdues the mind, removes sins.
The spark inside us is like a spark dulled by a coat of ash, because our indriyas govern us.
With Sadhana, the spark/jyothi shines more brightly.
It them moves towards the source
It then becomes one with the source.
The spark shines like a fully lit "Deepam", which is not disturbed wind/air.
The Paramatma and Jeevatma become one.
This is the final point of Mouna.
If one constantly churns the water, how can we find the "Pearl" inside the water.
If we constantly churn our mind with thoughts, how can we find the pearl inside us.
To start the Mouna process, let us "tie our tongue"
