This one will find in 1932 as well as 1964 upanyasam of MAHAPERIYAVAA.
Just before leaving his mortal body, BHAGAVAT PADAAL, is asked for his advice by his desciples. (Please note in the 1932 Upanyasam of MAHAPERIYAVAA, he forbids the usage of the word AADI SHANKARA. He always used the word, BHAGAVAT PAADAL).
BHAGAVAT PADAAL replies as stated in the above mentioned verse.
It’s meaning is as follows
क्षुद् - refers to stomach
व्यदिश् - means disease
च चिकित्स् - treatment
Disease of the stomach refers to HUNGER.
Therefore the above mentioned line means - TREAT THE DISEASE CALLED HUNGER.
Why is hunger being referred to as disease?
The answer to this lies in the next scentence
Therefore औषदं भुज्यतां - means take medicine to cure the disease called HUNGER.
For any disease, one takes medicine sufficient to cure the disease.
Usually it is in the form of tea spoonful.
Therefore what is suggested here, just take food to kill the hunger.
DONT OVER EAT.
How should you accept the food.
By begging.
Therefore BAHGATPADAAL’S message is that BEG AND EAT ONLY AS MUCH IS REQUIRED TO QUELL THE HUNGER,
न - Do Not
याच्यतां - dont go in for tasty food.
Means Do not go in for tasty food.
विदिवषात् - as ordained by destiny
प्राप्तेन - what u get
Be happy
Be happy with whatever you get, as if it is ordained by destiny
In summary, what this means is as follows
Treat hunger as a disease.
Eat food just sufficient enough quell the hunger.
Beg and Eat.
Do not go in search of tasty food.
Accept whatever you get as if is so ordained by destiny.
प्राप्तेन संतुष्यतां has many meaning associated with it.
Be contended with what you get.
If we put a comma before न in प्राप्तेन , it becomes प्राप्ते, न संतुष्यतां,
which means, just because u have got something do not get happy about it.
If we remove न in प्राप्तेन , and put it before प्राप्ते, it becomes
This means EVEN IF U DONT GET ANY THING BE HAPPY ABOUT IT.
