With Blessings of Sri Acharyas of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Gayathri Mela was conducted at Upanishad Ashramam, Nungambakkam under the auspices of Sri. Ramji, of Athma Vidya Samajam Trust and Pidi Arisi Thittam Trust.
Following the footsteps of his father and illustrious Sri. Raju Sastrigal, an ardent devotee of Mahaperiyaval, Mudhradhikari of Sri Kanchi Mutt, founder of Vaidhiga Samajam and Athama Vidya Samajam, Sri Ramji has been taking efforts on sustained basis in not only in propagating importance of Karmaanushtana but also facilitating every one to observe them as prescribed in Sanathana Dharma.
He motivated young boys into daily Sandhyavandanam, Samithathanam and 1008 Gayathri Japa on Sundays and provided not only samagris but also a small cash incentive to the needy which helped them to buy school books or pay fees. There were grahasthas too who followed his advise of 1008 Gayathris on holidays.
His idea of rewarding them on the day of Upakarma was well received by Acharyas. Periyava gave dollars of Mahaperiyaval and Balaperiyaval a booklet “Gayathri Mahimai” and approved his giving a full set of ' Deivaththinkural'.
His desire is to initiate more devotees into regular daily Sandhya and 1008 Gayathri on holidays. People nowadays are interested to know significance and benefits of performing karmas and to explain he chose Upakarma day and importance was explained by Dr.P.Ramachandran an eminent Cardiologist of Apollo Hospital.
Dr.Ramachandran explained that pranayama helps in proper functioning of respiratory system and purification of lungs. While doing sandhaya there are various aspects that purifies the body and give required exercises in different postures while performing argyas or namaskaras as prescribed. Gayathri Mantra Japa is meditation and improves concentration. Here again if done in proper speed and with holding of breath (as suggested by Mahaperiyaval) the lungs get energized. While power of concentration improves one could focus and achieve the goals with much ease as his IQ develops.
Dr. P.R. further mentioned that Sandhaya should be done daily with devotion and concentration and not mechanically. He explained the importance of this by an instance. In a marathon there were participants who could do 10, 20 and 50 miles but the winner was one who does 10 miles only. Asked how he could win he replied ‘ I do 10 miles daily without fail’. This reply explains his commitment. When sandhya is done from young age it develops the boy in all spheres.
Normally smoke that emanates from paper, wood or plastic is hazardous to environment some (especially plastic) even poisonous. On the contrary he said that smoke from Samiths have positive reaction as these are herbal and have medicinal properties. Accordingly doing samithadhanm therefore helps purification of lungs.
He summed up saying that Sandhyavandhanam, Gayathri Japam and Samithadhanam render ‘ Sarva Anugraham’ and need to be done without looking for the benefits.
Sri.K.Balasubramanian of Athma Vidya Samajam Trust supplemented by saying that a person to be a successful human being requires 3 ‘C’s such as Character, Competence and Confidence and these would lead to Concern for others. By proper handling of 5Ks is Panchakosams one could achieve higher degree of 3 Cs.
Panchakosams are:
Sandhyavandhana and Gayathri japa have all the regulatory powers to handle the 5Ks.
Suryanamaskaram adds value to the above and tends towards perfection of the system. Athma Vidya samajam Trust conducts Suryanamaskaram every Sunday morning for welfare of everyone and he requested devotees to take part and benefit.
Just before Vedharambham 14 brahmachaies and 3 Grahasthas were awarded with Prasadams of Acharyas and a set of invaluable Deivaththin kural by Sri Ramji through Prof. Suryanarayanan.
The awardees explained the benefits they derived. One said that his concentration has improved and there by he is scoring well. The other has reduced anger, the third is more disciplined and gets up early even on Sundays. Sri.Swaminathan a grahastha said his patience level has gone up and does not get tensed anymore. Sri.Ramamamurthi who on the advise of Sri. Ramji started 1008 Gayathri japa in the Adhishtanam of Mahaperiyaval had his daughter’s marriage fixed in the third week and by His grace she is now happily settled. He continues 1008 Japa on holidays for universal welfare.
Sri.Ramji is now determined to continue the task of inducting the devotees in Karamaanushtana and continue such Melas with the blessings of Acharya.
