OM SRI GURUPYO NAMAHA:,RESPECTFUL PRANAMS TO SRI KANCHI MAHA PERIVA .
Honouring Veda Vidwans.
Once Adi Rudram Homam was being performed at Thiruvadaimarudur.Maha Periva ordered that the Veda Vidwans who have learned Vedas fully with perfect knowledge of PADAM,KRAMAM,GANAM are to be honoured with golden rings studded with Diamond .For this an examination was conducted. The participants were required to recite in Vedaprasnam from Kanda Anvaakam ,then Padam etc without any mistake in Swara of a particular Number selected with the help of CHOZHI.Care should be taken NOT to repeat the Padam already recited,& there should be no increase or decrease in numbers of padams. Those who pass this test successfully would be rewarded with a Dimond studded ring.
To witness this test many people gathered there. The test commenced at 7PM and went upto 11 PM.In the test three Vidwans passed and each of them were presented by Periva with a gold coin of 3 and a half soverign. The remaining 40 Vidwans who participated in the test were each given a gold coin
This test was conducted in a similar fasion for three days. On the second day 6 Vidwans passed For them Periva desired that each should be presented wth a diamond studded ring. and it should be done then & there. As the rings were not ready, those assembled there voluntarily came forward to give their rings for this purpose. As per Periva's orders the rings were collected on a plate with a tag (showing the names of donors) attached to each ring.
About 25 such rings were thus collected and Acharya presented 6 rings to six Vidwans by random selection and the remaining rings were returned to the respective donors though they wanted Periva to retain them with MUTT for future presentation which Periva,as HIS usual nature, politely declined.
Thus Maha Priva not only encouraged the ADHYAYANAM of Vedas but also had the large heart to reward those who attained proficiency in learning and reciting VEDAS in the manner prescribed without any blemish. No doubt Maha Periva is the Protector and Saviour of our Sacred Vedas. It will not be wrong to say that Paramacharya gave a new life to the proper learning of Vedas and the practice of following our SANADANA DHARMA by a large number of HIS followers. HE did these single handedly, with great devotion and commitment with a view to revive of our HINDU DHARMA & HINDU HERITAGE.
We have no words to fully describe HIS contributions to the community of which he Presided as Parama Guru !
