Namaste, Periva Saranam.
Quite a few of our members have reached out to us seeking thoughts and guidance on how to celebrate Sri Sankara Jayanti this year - in response to the messages that were relayed through our "Kanchi Mahaan" programme (relayed on Sri Sankara TV, every morning 06:00 AM to 06:15 AM IST). If you want to catch the past episodes of this series, you can try either of these links: www.mxplayer.in/live-tv/program/30000000550009756_1586133000_0df410 & www.yupptv.com/channels/sri-sankara-tamil/ - search for Kanchi Mahaan)
We are very glad to see this commitment and thank every one of you for taking up the messages of Sri Maha Periva, and for getting ready to celebrate our Adi Acharya's Jayanti at your residences this year. Here are some thoughts for you to adapt & adopt, to the extent feasible for your respective situation:
1) The simplest and highest form of pooja to Sri Sankara is prescribed by Sri Maha Periva Himself, as a measure of showing our gratitude to Lord Parameswara who came down in this Avatara of Sri Sankara to save us from the world of ignorance and maaya. This is very practical and can be performed by everyone (no question of specific race, caste or creed / men-women etc, as our Acharya is Jagad-Guru = Guru for the whole world). Just spend at least 10 minutes each morning & evening in doing dhyanam of Sri Adi Sankara - perform japam of "Jaya Jaya Sankara, Hara Hara Sankara" mantram with eyes & lips closed, with singular focus on Sri Adi Sankara.
2) As the next step comes Sloka-patanam (reading of Slokas). There are plenty of bhakti slokas authored by Sri Adi Sankara - starting from a simple panchakam, ashtakam and going all the way to great devotional outpour like Sivananda Lahari, Soundarya Lahari etc. This could be another thing to add in your daily pooja commencing today - spend half an hour each day to pick one or two slokas of Sri Sankara, and chant them with full attention, while trying to understand and digest the meaning conveyed in those lines. You can pick different slokas each day - like Ganesa Pancharatnam, Shiva Panchakshari, Raja Rajeswari Ashtakam, Meenakshi Pancharatnam, Lalika Panchakam, Subrahmanya Bhujangam, Kanaka-dhaara Stotram, Achyutashtakam, Govindashtakam, Bhaja Govindam and so on. Many slokas are available in multi-lingual scripts from the websites of our Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt and Sri Sringeri Mutt - please make use of them as appropriate.
3) Those who are keen to do a detailed celebration - start these japam & sloka chanting right from today (23 April 2020) and continue all the way up to 28 April 2020, which is the Panchami day. Other option is to perform at least on the final day (28 April 2020).
4) Now for those who want to do a "Pooja" to Sri Sankara, there are two options - simple & detailed. The detailed one assumes some basic understanding and familiarity with the process of Pooja rituals, and hence recommended for such astikas with enough experience therein. The simple model is very easy to use, and can be adopted by virtually anyone with a devoted mind.
5) Simple Pooja Rituals - on each day (from 23 to 28 April), we can do a simple "Guru Pooja" using the structured instructions published by Brahmasri Dr S V Radhakrishna Sastrigal. The whole process might take anywhere between 30-45 minutes, depending on your familiarity with the mantras used. The mantras are available in Sanskrit & Tamil as well - this ebook ("Sri Guru Pooja") can be downloaded from our Sankara Jayanti folder (link given below). The same material can be used to perform "Guru Pooja" for any Guru - including for regular Anusham Pooja at your homes, it includes Ashtottara-Shata namavali for Sri Sankara, Periva and so on - the pooja material starts from Page 14 of the book. Those who do not have a photo of Sri Sankara for the pooja can make do with a nice print-out as well - we have kept a couple of photos for this purpose in the same folder.
6) Detailed Pooja Rituals - for those who want to perform a more detailed (shodasa-upachara-sahita-sahasra-namavali) pooja, we have another detailed version of "Sri Sankara Pooja Vidhanam" - this material is completely in Sanskrit only, with full details including Sahasra Namavali of Sri Adi Sankara. Those who are familiar with the general process of a detailed pooja (including Kalasa-Sthapanam, Sankha-Pooja etc) can resort to this model and can perform this pooja to their complete satisfaction with immense devotion to Adi Acharyal.

7) In addition to these materials, we intend to share some special materials each day on our YouTube channel - which would start from today, and be posted every evening at 6 PM IST - these materials would take us closer to understanding the divinity of Sri Adi Sankara. On the 28th April 2020, we plan to host a video session where you can cherish some nice programs on Sri Adi Sankara and be immersed in His devotion.
