Are there certain months in which Upanayanam cannot be performed? Someone mentioned that it cannot be done at the month of birth?
Are there any auspicious months to do it?

Uttarayanam is considered to be good period to perform upanayanam.
For upanayanam, naksatram of father and son should agree.
Upanayanam should be performed latest by age 16 (ideal is 8 years).
I think after age 16 it is better to do as early as possible without much regard to time/muhurtham since already ideal time has passed (It is like you appear for 10th exams after age 20 means you dont look at much details. Just try to pass as soon as you can).

Thank you very much, My son is 8 yrs old, we live in the US. I am anxious to get it done during his school vacation so he can get some coaching to do Sandhiavandhanam.
