Respected Members
Please clarify how many (padai) Poonals one has to wear who is married with children and whose parents are alive? There are two views which are being told - two and three.
Request members to clarify this. Thanks and regards.

Dear Sri swami7 - welcome to the Satsang, and thanks for your interesting question. Basically, the first set is presented on Upanayanam as the basic asset. Second one gets added on attaining the Grihasta Asrama - wedding. Third is meant to serve as an Uttareeyam - like an anga vastram or a towel which is designed to cover the torso. People who understand the need or purpose of the third set assign this at the point of wedding itself, where this third set would serve in the position of a uttareeyam if the Brahmin goes out of his residence without a uttareeyam or anga vastram. That third set of poonal is supposed to be a substitute or stand-in for such occasions. Hope this clarifies.
