Amongst the vast fertile green fields on both sides
The big sprawling trees
The thick shrubberies
In the breeze of the evening
On the dusty beaten path
Clad in dhoti and angavastram
Mumbling Vishnu Sahasranamam
Walks a flock of people
Surrounding a palanquin
Carried by four persons
Near a village
At a big banyan tree
Stops the palanquin
The entire village
From children to elders
From men to women
Come to the tree
With devotion, eagerness and anxiety
Hands folded
Carrying various offerings
To see HIM
The curtain of the palanquin
Is slowly pulled aside
The form which forms the world
Comes out and stands smiling
A very simple and thin man
Draped in a robe,
Bunch of Vilvam on the head
Forehead smeared with three stripes of Vibhuti
Eyes shining like the moon
A calm look
A lotus like face
Garland of rudraksh on the chest
Feet resting on a wooden slipper
Who would have thought
The golden crown glittering with stones and pearls
The crescent moon shining on the head
The Ganges streaming from the hair
The three eyes shining like the Sun
The cool moon rays flowing from the smile
The two hands holding Pasam and Angusam
The other two hands holding sugarcane bow and flower arrows
The snake swirling around the shoulder
The bejeweled garland lolling on the massive chest
The tiger skin worn around the waist
The ornamental silk dhoti worn in Panchakacham
The golden anklets on the ankles
Having the consort 'Shakti' within
Who creates, protects, destroys and blesses
Who is everywhere
Who is all powerful
Who is the God of all Gods
Who is the mother of compassion
The Lord Kameshwara
Would be standing at
the banyan tree
In that simple form
As the 68th Jagadguru Shankaracharya
Of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.
