Narrated by Sri Matha Balu Source: In the Presence of the Divine Narratives of Experiences with Maha Periyaval - Volume 1 Translated by: Sujatha Vijayaraghavan Ramani, a devotee from Bombay, would come for Periyava's darsan on full-moon and other important days. He would always bring plenty of fruits. A room was given to him for his stay in Sri Matha. One morning, he prostrated to Periyaval and went back to his room. After a while, Periyava said, "Call Ramani". Ramani's door was ajar. I peeped in and saw Ramani performing puja with Periyava's picture in front of him, completely forgetful of the whole world. I did not have the heart to disturb him. So I went back to Periyava. Seeing me come back alone, Periyava did not ask, "Why has not Ramani come with you?" In words brimming with affection, he asked me, "Is he worshiping me?" "Yes". Periyaval became silent. But thoughts raged through my mind noisily. Periyava did know that Ramani was doing his puja. Then why did he send me to fetch the gentleman. Did he wish that I see Ramani in worship? Was it his immense grace that a simpleton like me should learn what devotion was? I really do not know. Anyway, I have made the admission that I am a simpleton!
