Experiences with Maha Periyava: Mrs. Gemini Ganesan – Don’t Give Now!
Sri Maha Periyava was camping at Ugar Khurd in Karnataka. Mrs. Bobji, wife of actor Gemini Ganesan came to have darshan of Periyava. At that time a poor Brahmin came with his daughter and did namaskaram to Periyava.
The Brahmin said “My daughter’s marriage has been fixed. I seek Periyava’s blessing. I request Periyava to help me financially also.”
Periyava immediately turned to Bobji and said “Give something you have to this Brahmin.”
She immediately took a pair of gold bangles, which she was wearing, and offered them with a lot of joy.
Periyava said “Wait. Don’t give now. It is enough if these bangles are given four days before his daughter’s wedding.”
Why did Periyava say so? Further He told the local Bank Manager who was present. “Keep these bangles in the locker of your bank. You can give them to the Brahmin later.”
After two days the poor Brahmin came crying to Periyava. “Most of my belongings at home have been stolen. How will I conduct marriage of my daughter? Periyava is my only hope.”
Periyava said “Don’t worry. Only what is destined to go has gone. But marriage of your daughter will be conducted well.”
The poor Brahmin said “I am left with only bangles gifted by Mrs.Bobji. By the grace of Periyava these bangles are saved.”
Periyava smilingly said “Thalaiku vandhadhu thalaipaagoda pochu. Using these bangles go and organise marriage of your daughter.”
Periyava gave him prasadam and blessed him. The value of those bangles in those days was Rs 20,000, which was a big sum of money.
Following questions may arise in our minds. Could Periyava not have prevented the theft, if he wanted? Could He have at least cautioned the Brahmin?
Mahaans will not change our Prarabhdam (punyam/ paapam of our past janmaas fructifying in this janmaa according to Law of karma). Every jiva has to experience the consequences of past karmas – good or bad.
But Mahatmas will bless us such that the impact of our past karmas is not severe. With blessings of Mahatmas even difficulties which come our way will not appear to be difficulties. As our devotion to Periyava increases, even difficulties that come to us will face difficulty.
