I am posting this article written by Shri M.S.Gopalakrishnan,( 85 years old ), my father-in -law , at his request ,sharing his personal experiences with Maha Periyava, on his behalf
After my father"s demise in 1972, the members of the joint family oh which I was part of, we're exposed to afflictions, with no patriarch to guide and support. An astrologer attributed it to the presence of sumangali dosham in the horoscopes. In the year 1974 or so, I went to kanchi taking a nephew with me who caused a good deal of embarrassment to the good name and reputation of the family.
I could not get near H.H., as there was a large crowd. Impatient, I was about to leave. I was dismayed, when a personal attendant called my name and beckoned me to come forward. Pushing myself in the crowd, I was face to face in the Holy Presence. After taking a look at me, HH turned and asked the mutt manager"how many sumangalis were fed at the mutt today?" I could not hear the reply. But HH immediately turned turned to my side and blessing us permitted us to leave. The hint was clear because it was a Friday that I had paid that visit. After taking the necessary steps. There was great relief!
Our afflictions cause suffering to the body or the mind or both. They arise out of past acts of sin. Failure to do ordained duties of the varna or doing prohibited acts, produce baneful effects. But the over riding
compassionate dispensation to the seeker is guaranteed!Divine mother Kamakshi, as panchakritya parayana, is all merciful. HH represents the manifested aspect of that grace! So comes the realisation now after correlating past events.
my sixth and last child was named as Chandramouli, to closely resemble the name of the pontiff.his health condition was a constant source of worry for us.Struggling to cope up with the increasing responsibility of managing a family of growing up children. I was subject to a lot of mental stress then. I took one of those periodical trips to kanchi. My wife also accompanied me, carrying the child in her arms.As a mother, the burden must have been heavier for her, though she was stoic by temperament . Somehow, I felt restrained to vent my feelings in the presence of HH. He cast a piercing look and asked me ,how many children I had. When I replied, HH greeted me with a broad and sympathetic smile in His beaming face, with His right forefinger raised to the tip of His nose! Probably, my predicament evoked that gesture , the full significance of which becomes clear only years later, after all struggles are over!
