Sri Rama Navami Special
Lesser known stories of Ramayana ( Video in English)
Jai sriram. Greetings to all. All of us know about the main story of our great epic the Ramayana .
Today we are going to see an unknown aspect of Ramayana which brings about the significance of the “Rama Nama
”
Who is not aware of the love and devotion of Shri Hanuman for Shri Ram?
Yet, did u know that he was once issued the death sentence by
his beloved. Ram. ?
Well, here goes the story.
Once in the court of Ayodhya kingdom a debate took place among the wisest of scholars. Great sages like Narada, Vasishta and Vishwamitra were also present in the court.
All of a sudden, Devarishi Narad asked this question, “All renowned scholars, will you please tell who is greater – The God Himself or His Name?” Even after a long debate, no conclusive answer could be found
Devarishi Narad went ahead and declared, Lord Ram’s Name is greater than Ram himself. He also stated with confidence that he could easily prove his statement.
That day, when the court was about to disperse, DevrishiNarada, known for His interest in creating discord between two people, went upto Hanuman, who had been a silent witness to the debate. He told Hanuman to respect all sages except RajrishiVishwamitra, since he was once a king and not worthy of respect , iwhen compared to other sages,.
Hanuman being the obedient person he was, followed the Devrishi’s words and greeted all the other sages except Vishwamitra.
This angered the rishi. But somehow he composed himself and
did not mind it
But would Narada leave this issue? No, so he quickly ,
went to Viswamitra and provoked him on his Hanuman’s rude behavior pointing out how disrespectful Hanuman was being, by not greeting only Him
Sage Viswamitra was enraged by the time Nararda finished
Rishi Vishwamitra went to Shri Ram and said “As your devotee Hanuman has insulted me publically, sentence him to death before sunset tomorrow so that everyone can learn a lesson for not respecting me ....
Hearing this, Shri Ram was disheartened as he loved Hanuman dearly, but still, as Vishwamitra was Ram’s guru , He could not disobey His guru’s words. He decreed that Shri Hanuman will be sentenced to death by arrows before next day’s sunset ..
He also said that He would Himself shoot the arrow to kill Hanuman.
Meanwhile, the news spread like wild fire in Ayodhya .
Hanuman got scared and He went to Narada and asked “ why am I being punished for listening to your words.?”
Narada, asked him to stay calm and not worry about anything. He also asked Hanuman to take a dip in the river and stand on it’s banks chanting the Rama Nama.
.
And so the next day, , Hanuman obeyed Narada’s words and stood on the banks of the river, waiting for Ram to come and shoot the arrow. Ram came. Hanuman looked at Ram with full devotion and started chanting “Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram”, continuously
Shri Ram himself, with a heavy heart, undertook the task of aiming arrows at Lord Hanuman.
He kept shooting arrows at Hanuman. Not even a single arrow shot by Rama touched Hanuman, let alone pierce him. Hanuman kept chanting sri ram jaya ram jaya jay ram. The arrows would reach near Hanuman and fall down at His feet. Finally, Ram got exhausted.
He took out the ‘Brahmastra’, the most lethal of all weapons, and aimed it at Lord Hanuman.
When DevRishi Narad noticed Rama all set to shoot with the Brahmastra he went to Rishi Vishwamitra and requested him to stop the unique battle. He said “oh great sage, Hanuman Ji was very ignorant about your grace , but does that make a difference in your greatness in anyway?. However this was a little drama that I directed to show the significance of “Ram Naam”.
Do you agree now that Naam is more powerful than Shri Ram Himself. Vishwamitra was convinced and ordered Shri Ram to stop the death sentence.
Hanuman Ji came and prostrated himself on the feet of Shri Ram. He expressed his gratitude and apologized to Maharishi Vishwamitrra .
RajRishi not only forgave him but blessed him too, that his devotion towards Ram will be the loftiest example in time to come. Thus the Greatness of Ram Naam was established.
Such a simple mantra , Such a beautiful Mantra
Let us also chant this taraka Mantra of Rama Nama and be blessed.
Sri Ram Jaya ram jaya jaya ram.
