The following slokam from Sootasamhitai explains the benefits of Rudra Japam:
वृक्षाय मूलसेकेन शाकाः पुष्यन्ति वै यता l शिवा रुद्रजपात् प्रीता प्रिता एवास्य देवताः l अतो रुद्रजपादेव भुक्ति मुक्ती प्रसिद्यतः l
"Vrikshasya mUlasekena SAkhA: pushyanti vai yathA | Sive rudrajapAt preete pritA evAsya devatAh | ato rudra-japAdeva bhukti-mukti prasidhyatah |" Briefly, the slokam explains the essence of “Rudra Japa” (Sri Rudram chanting) as follows:
"Just as watering the root of a tree nourishes all the branches, chanting Rudra japa (Rudra hymn) pleases all the devatas (all forms of gods). By chanting Sri Rudram with devotion, one gets Bhukti (material enjoyments) and Mukti (freedom from the bondage of re-birth, the ultimate goal)."
