Namaskaram. We would like to clarify from the Forum that we are not fully endorsing the telecasts by Vijay TV on the Life of His Holiness Sri Maha Periva by publishing these videos. We are posting them here in the Forum for the benefit of those who would very much like to watch the episodes live but could not do so for any reason. Some devotees have expressed offline about the authenticity of the facts portrayed in the serial. For example, in the Episode 2 wherein the beggar steals the bangle from the boy, it goes against the version we have read. Here is an extract of what Periva said in His own words to Bhavans Journal: "The next experience relates to a main in the street who entered the house seeing me alone with tiny golden bangles upon which he began to lay his hands. I asked him to tighten the hooks of the bangles which had become loose and gave a peremptory and authoritative direction to him to bring them back repaired without delay.
The man took my orders most obediently and took leave of me with the golden booty. In glee of having arranged for repairs to my ornament, I speeded to inform my people inside of the arrangement made by me with the man in the street who gave his name as Ponnusami. The people inside hurried to the street to find out the culprit. But the booty had become his property true to his assumed name, Ponnusami (master of gold)".Full text is available on this link: www.periva.proboards.com/thread/3905/life-taught-sri-maha-perivaClearly, the producers have inserted some add-ons in this instance. Many ardent devotees of the Mahaswami are indeed upset at the distortion of facts. Our Periva needs no publicity - He is Parameshwara who lived amongst our midst and those of us who have had His darshan and those of us in the present generation who have got an opportunity to know more about HIM are indeed blessed. We really wish the producers would present historical facts very clearly without any distortion. Having said this, all of us know that this is the first time there is something on Television on our Mahaswami. Such telecasts definitely have an impact on a larger audience and we are sure will reach those who known very little or do not know anything about the Great Saint who lived in our midst. Our Periva is Jagat Guru - He was loved and worshiped by all sections of the society, even those from other religions. So, while certainly expressing our concerns at incorrect facts portrayed in the episodes, let us also have the mindset to welcome it on the other hand - with the only intention that more people will know about the God and their bhakthi and devotion will grow. Maybe it will prompt people to read further about His teachings and try to lead a dharmic way of life. Jaya Jaya Shankara, Hara Hara Shankara!

I am actually very upset with all the "cinematic" version of MahaSwami's life history... I am upset that a known history is being distorted with wrong facts - someone who has not read the original biography or any article written that was approved by MahaSwami (Raa.Ganapathy Anna's books on MahaPeriyavaa) would consider what he sees in these serials as the correct version. He was 10 years younger to his elder brother Ganapathy... but see what they show; His mother was very pious (தினமுமே திவச மடி தான்) in His own words... Mathusri is shown without the traditional black beads in the neck and as a lady who is opposed to Vedic lessons for her children.... Swaminathan had His younger siblings in quick succession - which is not shown; 66th Acharya calls Himself with the name of 67th Acharya - and the poorvasrama 67th Acharya is shown as a big lad which is again not correct... school episodes are totally absurd; Subramania Sastry being an Education officer did not have to attend interview of a Nun to get his son admitted in school; Bible classes are never taken by anyone other than Christians especially in Christian Missionary school, that too in 1904... They are showing Swaminathan with Poonool and they all just start eating.... Subramanya Sastri is shown as a Vedic Pundit, whereas he was an English educated Government official.... a lot of uncaring attitude and no concern for accuracy in dress, house, speech, facts etc makes me very upset. I get the serial recorded and watch it once I reach home. Today I am still in office and feel that I should miss seeing this recorded programme. I am happy reading MahaSwami's life in authentic books and hearing it in Sri Ganesa Sarma Anna's pravachanams.... Jeya Jeya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara!

One should appreciate the basic intension in these telecast than going more. It is the best educative one for the younger generation as well.
Reading books to know about him will start as they see these telecasts ...
It seems what is best possible is done. I am not supporting any, it is appreciation for their efforts etc.

I am not able to agree with the statement that inaccuracies in Maha Periyava's life history can be ignored. Maha Periyava is a stickler for facts. It will least matter to Parabrahman how He is portrayed. When a cinematic version is made, there will be a lot of compromises. What respected member Uma said is very correct. I feel that at least now, the producers of the serial should consult Kanchi Sri Periyava, scholars like Sri. Ganesa Sarma, any surviving Poorvaasrama relatives of Maha Periyava and get the correct version of events and picturise future episodes. It may interest readers to know that Maha Periyava stopped Anna Ra. Ganapati from completing His Dhivya Charithram after the first chapter came in Kalki. He possibly wanted him to write the rest only after His Siddhi. It really never happened in Anna Sri Ra. Ganapati's lifetime and he wrote small books on Maha Periyava Experiences which are real authentic treasures to read. Maha Periyava Dhivya Charithram by Sri Sambhamurthy SasthrigaL is very authentic. Much information could be gathered from Anna Sri. Ra. Ganapati's books, experiences of devotees narrated in books and blogs like Kanchi Periva Forum and Sage of Kanchi etc. Perhaps youngsters may be stimulated by this effort. If some of them get directed properly by this, it is worth the while. Jaya Jaya Shankara, Hara Hara Shankara!

With due respects to all those who have expressed different views on this serial, i WISH TO SUBMIT MY SINCERE THOUGHTS ON THIS.
BEING A VISUAL PRESENTATION, facts are either distorted or over dramatised and they are likely to create a different impression.
Dialpgue delivery is very poor and artificial. After reading R. Ganapathy anna's books and Deivathin Kural, the dialogues by various characters look extremely artificial. MahaPeriava's upanayanm took place when He was 11 years old. This serial shows him as wearing Poonal even at a very young age. Murukku Paatti episode is picturised with disastrous effects. THe FACTS IN PONNUSAMY'S EPISODE ARE DISTORTED.
THE TAMIL SPOKEN BY VARIOUS CHARACTERS IS FULL OF PRONUNCIATION BLUNDERS.
THE PRODUCTION TEAM DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY BODY WHO IS KNOWLEDGEABLE ON mahaperiava's life history. great scholars like GANESA SARMA AND OTHERS SHOULD HAVE HAD A PART IN WRITING THE SCRIPT. THE PICTURISATION SHOULD TOTALLY AVOID EXAGGERATION AND DRAMATIZING.
ON THE WHOLE IT IS A POOR PRODUCTION EFFORT AND LOOKS TOTALLY AMATEURISH.
IT IS BETTER NOT TO WATCH THIS .

Namaskaram, I have fully gone through the various views and opinions of our respected members and moderators regarding this serial. Having read these, I also find myself in a divided road. However, having due regard to Periva's focus on perfection (well said Sri kahanam - Periva is a stickler for facts) - I would join the group of members who feel that this should have been handled much better by the Production team, and they should have included inputs from ardent devotees & great scholars like Sri Ganesa Sarma, who is an encyclopedia on Periva's topics. But, we as a group may not be able to stop the episodes being telecast. We can focus our energy instead on the following two things: a) Let us keep publishing the serials, and write down reviews for each serial alongside the published video, where we can clarify the factual inaccuracies, and tell our members what should be discounted (let us write objectively instead of venting our anger against the producers - after all they are also involved in something good) b) We will cast our net to our members through an appeal mail, and try to find out if any of our people have contacts or connects in Vijay TV that can help us to connect to the Production team, through which we can air our views to them, and probably try and fix some of the future episodes - if Periva wishes that this may happen, it will happen for sure. I sincerely hope all of you would agree with me on this approach. If I get to have a word of concurrence or two from our respected members on this thread, I can initiate some action on these lines. Many thanks once again and we at the Forum should feel really proud to see so many committed devotees coming together for this good cause. Let this swell further with His blessings.
