We are pleased to inform our members that one of our respected moderators & well wishers of this Forum - Sri Sarma Sastrigal has recently published a Tamil book on Samithaadhaanam. This book would be a wonderful gift to be presented for Upanayanam functions and also to be handed out to Brahmacharis on any occasion. Here is a brief account of the book and its release, which took place at the Kanchi Sri Matam recently:
“Faith and commitment to one's dharma is essential for every human being. It would be no exaggeration to acknowledge that it is indeed a great fortune that we have been born in this Punya Bhoomi or divine land that is India. Our mind must be determined to perform dharmic activities and rituals, allowing no scope for excuses, for after all, our daily activities and rituals are all ordained for the welfare of the world also…”. Thus spoke Sri Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal, the junior pontiff of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt on 13th January 2014 at Kancheepuram. This was on the occasion of the launch of the book ‘Samithadhaanam’ in Tamil by Sri Sarma Sastrigal.
The Acharya further said, “every brahmachari whose Upanayanam has been performed, must mandatorily perform this ritual of Agni Samithadhaanam. In recent times youngsters have ignored this ritual, and this trend needs to be reversed. Parents have the all-important role of getting the brahmacharis to regularly perform sandhyavandanam and samithadhaanam.
The significance of this ritual and the procedure for performing it have been brought lucidly by Sri Sarma Sastrigal, a devotee of the Mutt. He writes several books on various aspects of Sanatana Dharma, in Tamil and English, and our blessings go to him for continuance of his efforts.”
As is appropriate for the book launch, Bala Periyava asked a sishya present there to read out some extracts from the book. The Preface and a few key points from the book were read out to highlight the significance of Samithadhaanam.
This was a source of unlimited joy to the audience present, even as the Acharya himself listened in appreciation.
The senior pontiff Sri Jayendra Saraswati also blessed the book and personally distributed the first few copies to the persons assembled there for the event.
The formal book release was preceded by a solemn offering of the book at the Adhishtanam of Maha Periava, and invoking His blessings."
Those who are interested to get copies of this book may reach Sri Sarma Sastrigal through email - sarmasasthrigal@gmail.com or by mobile - at +91-9444380973.
